In het Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Neurenberg is een vervalsing van het zelfportret van Dürer te zien.
Het schilderij werd in 1799 door de stad Neurenberg uitgeleend aan een schilder genaamd Abraham Kuffner, om een kopie te maken. Kuffner kopieerde het, maar stuurde de kopie terug en bewaarde het origineel, dat zich nu in de Pinakothek van München bevindt.
