Het Max-Planck-Institut voor Radioastronomie bevindt zich in Bonn-Endenich in Noordrhijn-Westfalen.
De belangrijkste werkgebieden van het instituut zijn de radioastronomie en de infraroodastronomie. Het Max-Planck-Institut voor Radioastronomie werd opgericht in 1966. Vanaf dat moment werd begonnen met de bouw van de 100-meter radiotelescoop Effelsberg in Bad Münstereifel-Effelsberg, waarvan de ingebruikname plaatsvond in 1972.
