Haltern am See is een station in de stad Haltern am See in de Noordrijn-Westfalen Kreis Recklinghausen. De bedrijfslocatie ligt op spoor kilometer 26,0 van de hoofdroute van Wanne-Eickel Hauptbahnhof naar Hamburg Hauptbahnhof en was vroeger het startpunt van de zijlijn via Büderich naar Venlo. Beide lijnen samen staan bekend als de Hamburg-Venloer Bahn, die tot aan de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd bereden door internationale snelle treinen die ook stopten in Haltern. Bovendien werd er tot de millenniumwisseling in het station Haltern de voorsorteering van goederentreinen in de richting van het Ruhrgebied uitgevoerd. Sinds 1998 is het ook geïntegreerd in het net van de S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr.
