Het Schlosstheater Celle is een hoftheater dat is ontstaan in het kader van de vernieuwing en barokkerken van het Celler kasteel. Het werd opgericht tussen 1670 en 1674/75 op initiatief van de operaliefhebber Georg Wilhelm, prins van Lüneburg uit het huis Braunschweig en Lüneburg. Na een bloeiperiode in de 18e eeuw met een vast ensemble, namen de uitvoeringen steeds meer af, totdat het verwaarloosde huis in 1890 de speelactiviteiten volledig staakte. In 1935 werd het grondig gerenoveerd en nieuw leven ingeblazen. Het baroktheater met een hoefijzervormige zaal naar Italiaans voorbeeld is een van de oudste theatergebouwen van Europa.
De zaal biedt in het parterre en op de twee ringen, waarvan de tweede in de 18e eeuw later is toegevoegd, in totaal 330 zitplaatsen. Aan het Schlosstheater Celle is een studioruimte gekoppeld, genaamd de Malersaal, met 40 plaatsen.
