Het station Lippstadt is een intercityhalte van de Midden-Duitsland-verbinding in de gemeente Soest en ligt aan de spoorlijn Hamm–Warburg, die in Lippstadt kruist met de spoorlijn Münster–Warstein. Tot 1979 vertakte hier ook nog de Rhedaer spoorlijn naar Rheda.
In het spoorpersonenvervoer wordt Lippstadt sinds december 2020 dagelijks bediend door een paar Intercity-Express-treinen en verder onregelmatig aangeboden IC-verbindingen. Het betreft enkele treinen van de lijnen IC 50 Düsseldorf–Hamm–Kassel–Erfurt–Gera/Leipzig en ICE 41 Darmstadt–Frankfurt–Keulen–Düsseldorf–Hamm–Kassel–Würzburg–München.
