De Yachtclub Niedersachsen is een zeilvereniging. De grote meerderheid van de leden is toegewijd aan recreatief zeilen, een kleinere groep neemt actief deel aan wedstrijden. Zo heeft de YCN al meerdere Duitse kampioenen kunnen voortbrengen in onder andere de bootklassen Laser, International Canoe of Taifun.
Naast het recreatieve zeilen is de Yachtclub Niedersachsen ook gericht op wedstrijdzeilen. Naast de organisatie van interne clubwedstrijden worden er vaak ook grote evenementen zoals Duitse kampioenschappen in verschillende klassen georganiseerd.
