De Flehbach ontstaat uit verschillende bronstromen, voornamelijk van de noordwestelijke helling van de Tütberg op het stadsgebied van Bergisch Gladbach. De kleinste beekjes hebben geen naam, de iets grotere heten Wahlbach, Holzerbach en Kleiner Wahlbach. Van het noorden mondt de in het gebied van Moitzfeld ontspringende Böttcherbach erin uit. Over een lengte van ongeveer 2 km vormt de Flehbach de stadsgrens tussen Bergisch Gladbach en Keulen. In Keulen-Merheim stroomt hij samen met de rechter Bruchbach, die eerder ook als Eggerbach en Frankenforstbach wordt aangeduid. De samengevoegde beek heet Faulbach, onderloopt de Strunde en mondt gekanaliseerd uit in de Rijn.
