De saline Salzkotten was een zoutziederij die vermoedelijk al in de 11e eeuw werd gesticht in het Noordrijn-Westfalen Salzkotten, in het voormalige prinsbisdom Paderborn.
De eerste vermelding van de zoutbron in Salzkotten dateert uit de bronnen van 1011, ter gelegenheid van de schenking van de graafschap Haholt door koning Heinrich II aan bisschop Meinwerk van Paderborn. De oudste schriftelijke vermelding van commerciële zoutwinning in Salzkotten gaat terug tot het jaar 1160. In dat jaar schonk bisschop Bernhard I van Oesede drie zoutketels in Salzkotten aan de cisterciënzersabdij Hardehausen. Voor het jaar 1294 is een vereniging van zoutziederij in Salzkotten geregistreerd, die al aandelenrechten had in de gemeenschappelijke zoutbron van Salzkotten. Vanaf dat moment bleef het aantal zoutfabrieken in Salzkotten altijd 24.
