Een innovatief project heeft deze kolenmijn van Bergwerk Prosper-Haniel omgevormd tot een gigantische batterij die overtollige zonne- en windenergie kan opslaan en vrijgeven wanneer de voorraden schaars zijn. De Prosper-Haniel-kolenmijn in de Duitse staat Noordrijn-Westfalen zal worden omgevormd tot een 200 megawatt gepompstookwaterkrachtreservoir dat functioneert als een gigantische batterij. De capaciteit is genoeg om meer dan 400.000 huishoudens van stroom te voorzien, zei gouverneur Hannelore Kraft, volgens Bloomberg.
