Lüben ligt vier kilometer ten noorden van Wittingen. Het heeft 107 inwoners. Het dorp en de omgeving zijn landelijk gekenmerkt, in 2018 waren er nog vijf landbouwbedrijven actief.
Lüben werd voor het eerst in 956 schriftelijk vermeld als Liubeme, toen Otto I. het stift Quedlinburg zes Slavische dorpen uit de Marca Lipani schonk. Het dorp werd als een rondel gebouwd. In 1911 werd het restaurant geopend, dat tot op heden in familiale handen is. Hier bevond zich ook het postkantoor en de eerste telefoonverbinding van het dorp. Na 1945 lag Lüben ongeveer een kilometer van de binnenduitse grens. Op 1 maart 1974 werd de gemeente Lüben ingelijfd bij de stad Wittingen. In 1987 ontving het dorp een gouden medaille in de wedstrijd “Ons dorp moet mooier worden”.
