Kaatschen maakt deel uit van Kaatschen-Weichau, een deelgemeente van de gemeente Großheringen in het district Weimarer Land in Thüringen.
Kaatschen ligt ten oosten van de Saale en de spoorlijn Berlijn-München, direct aan de oever van de rivier en ten noorden van Camburg en ten zuiden van Bad Sulza. De grond van het dorp bevindt zich op floodplains in de riviervallei en op Muschelkalk-verweerd bodems op de hellingen. Via een verbindingsweg bij de kruising van een rivier- en spoorwegovergang naar Weichau is het dorp verbonden met de landelijke weg 1061. Van hieruit bereikt men de federale wegen 87 en 88. De Saale-fietsroute raakt het dorp.
