Hier woonde Alexander Grothendieck (geboren op 28 maart 1928 in Berlijn, † 13 november 2014 in Saint-Lizier bij Saint-Girons, Ariège). Hij was een in Duitsland geboren Franse wiskundige. Alexander Grothendieck werd geboren in Berlijn, waar zijn moeder, de Noord-Duitse journalist en schrijver Johanna "Hanka" Grothendieck (1900-1957), woonde en getrouwd was met een man die niet zijn vader was (uit de verhouding kwam een halfzus Maida). Zijn vader, Alexander Schapiro (1890-1942), woonde sinds 1921 illegaal onder de naam "Alexander Tanarov". Hij was van Hasidische afkomst, werd een anarchist en moest na de Russische Oktoberrevolutie Oekraïne verlaten hebben nadat hij actief was geweest in de Oekraïense beweging. Daar verdiende hij zijn brood als straatfotograaf en leerde hij Hanka Grothendieck kennen. Op 22 maart 2017 werden hier voor hem en zijn familie een gedenksteen aangebracht aan de Brunnenstraße 165.
