De Mutterbach is een orografisch linker zijrivier van de Main in Unterfranken. Hij wordt in de lijst van beek- en riviergebieden in Beieren officieel als Breitenbach vermeld. In Hessen wordt hij Steinbach genoemd; hij was de naamgever van de kortlevende gemeente Steinbachtal. De gemiddelde afvoer ligt op 120 liter per seconde. Bij zeldzame overstromingen moet rekening worden gehouden met afvoeren van 20 kubieke meter per seconde.
