Waarschijnlijk de bekendste Bulderner persoonlijkheid is "De dolle Bomberg". Zijn echte naam was Kammerherr en Baron Gisbert Freiherr von Romberg. Geboren in 1839 en overleden in 1897 op het Kasteel Buldern, verwierf hij grote bekendheid in het Münsterland door zijn ruwe levensstijl, zijn kofe streken en zijn liefdesavonturen. Hij werd bijgezet in de oude kerk van Buldern, waar zijn graf ook vandaag de dag nog te bezichtigen is. De naam "De dolle Bomberg" kreeg hij pas in de 20e eeuw door de in 1924 verschenen gelijknamige bestsellerroman van Josef Winckler (1881-1966). Bomberg verwierf wereldwijde bekendheid en wordt op een lijn gesteld met "Baron von Münchhausen" en "Till Eulenspiegel".
