Welbergen huisvest een van de oudste bewaarde parochiekerken van het Münsterland: de oudste delen van de parochiekerk St. Dionysius dateren uit het begin van de 12e eeuw en zijn dus uit de tijd van de Romaanse architectuur. Bij de aanbouw van het laatgotische koor (1511) werd het kerkgebouw verhoogd, herkenbaar aan het vakwerk aan de noordzijde. Binnen zijn enkele fragmenten van wandschilderingen uit de bouwtijd van het koor te zien, waarschijnlijk uitbeeldingen van de apostelen. De kerk is in 1954 grondig gerenoveerd.
