De Evangelische Kerk Niederwenigern bevindt zich aan de Justinenweg 2, nabij de Burgaltendorfer Straße in de wijk Niederwenigern van Hattingen.
De protestantse gemeenschap bestond sinds het late 16e eeuw, maar was een diasporagemeente. Omdat haar vanaf 1672 het gebruik van de rooms-katholieke Mauritiuskirche werd ontzegd, vonden de diensten eerst plaats in een aanbouw van het pastoraat. In 1751 werd er een kerk gebouwd die meer op een schuur leek en geen klokken had. Nadat de bevolking door mijnbouw en industrialisatie sterk was toegenomen, werden de plaatsen Hinsbeck en Byfang in 1875 afgesplitst. Desondanks besloot men ook in Niederwenigern een grotere kerk te bouwen. De bouwkosten van 30.660 Mark werden voor de helft gefinancierd door leningen en door donaties.
