Start: Steinbach a.Wald, station

Route: Steinbach a. Wald station, on the Rennsteig trail to Wanderhütte Schildwiese, turnoff to Kleintettau, Alexanderhütte, Sattelgrund, Schauberg, Heinersdorf, Neukenroth, Kronach. Return by train from Kronach to Steinbach a. Wald possible. (*)

Route description: Arrival by train to Steinbach a. Wald. Alternatively, by bike from Kronach to Steinbach a. Wald, about 25 km.

From the station in Steinbach a.Wald, following the Rennsteig trail, the cycle path runs with a gently undulating profile. Shortly after the hiking hut at Schildwiese, the tour branches off down to Kleintettau; a stretch along the main road to Alexanderhütte; at the intersection turn left into the Tettau valley via the lightly traveled district road to Sattelgrund and Schauberg. From Schauberg, continue south along the valley and across the state border to Thuringia; in the Tettau valley nature reserve through natural meadows and floodplains to Heinersdorf. At the border station with remnants of the former wall, the route follows agricultural paths with a slight ascent to Neukenroth in the Haßlach valley; from Neukenroth on cycle paths to the district town of Kronach.
