Vom Rennsteig nach Kronach (KC 8)*

Start: Steinbach a. Wald, train station

Route: Steinbach a. Wald main station, on the Rennsteig to the Schildwiese hiking hut, branch off to Kleintettau, Alexanderhütte, Sattelgrund, Schauberg, Heinersdorf, Neukenroth, Kronach. Return journey by train from Kronach to Steinbach a. Wald possible. (*)

Route description: Train journey to Steinbach a. Wald. Alternatively, cycle from Kronach to Steinbach a. Wald, approx. 25 km.

From the train station in Steinbach a. Wald, following the Rennsteig, the cycle path has a slightly undulating profile. Shortly after the hikers' hut at Schildwiese, the tour branches off down to Kleintettau; a stretch along the state road to Alexanderhütte; at the road junction, turn left into the Tettautal valley via the little-used district road to Sattelgrund and Schauberg. From Schauberg, continue south along the valley and across the border into Thuringia; in the Tettautal nature reserve through natural meadows and floodplains to Heinersdorf. At the border site with remains of the former wall, the route follows agricultural paths with a slight ascent to Neukenroth in the Haßlachtal valley; from Neukenroth on cycle paths to the district town of Kronach.
