Guadalest ligt op ongeveer een half uur tot drie kwartier rijden van badplaatsen aan de Costa Blanca zoals Calpe, Moraira, Altea en Benidorm. Het bijna duizend jaar oude dorp is geheel gesitueerd rondom het kasteel. Het kasteel, simpelweg El Castell de Guadalest genaamd, is bovenop een rots gebouwd. Noemenswaardig zijn behalve het kasteel, het sfeervolle marktplein, het stadhuis en de in barokstijl gebouwde kerk, twee musea en het fraaie uitzicht op het stuwmeer.
