Al-Ándalus is de naam die de moslims in de Middeleeuwen gaven aan het Iberisch schiereiland.[1] Sommige auteurs beperken de term tot het schiereiland —en aanvankelijk de Septimania— onder moslimheerschappij tussen 711 en 1492.[2] Voor de middeleeuwse Arabische auteurs duidt de term al-Ándalus het geheel van de gebieden aan die veroverd zijn door Arabisch-moslimtroepen[3] in gebieden die momenteel tot Spanje, Portugal, Frankrijk, Andorra en het Britse overzeese gebied Gibraltar behoren.[4]
