In een vallei in het hart van het Romaanse Conflent en aan de voet van de Canigo, is de abdij Saint-Michel een uitzonderlijk architecturaal geheel (10e-12e eeuw) met zijn basiliek, een van de grootste en belangrijkste pre-Romaanse kerken van Europa, zijn Romaanse Lombardische klokkentoren, zijn crypte en zijn Romaanse kloostergang. Het is sinds 878 de thuisbasis van Benedictijnse monniken.
