Het museum is een plaats van expressie die betrekking heeft op een van de leidende figuren van de 18e eeuwse Elzas, Jean-Fréderic Oberlin, pastoor, pedagoog, botanicus, plattelandsanimator en verdediger van de mensenrechten. In dit museum is het geen kwestie van passief kijken naar een voorwerp, een foto of een etiket, maar van waarnemen, luisteren, lezen, construeren, manipuleren en voelen om de goddelijke complexiteit van de pastoor van Waldersbach te begrijpen.
