De Abdij Saint-Michel is bekend sinds de tiende eeuw. Er is bewijs dat in 972 reeds een Benedictijner gemeenschap was. Deze gemeenschap begon de landbouw en economische ontwikkeling met de exploitatie van de wijngaard en de wijnhandel via de Tarn. De abdij werd gedeeltelijk herbouwd in 1271 in de Zuid-gotische stijl. De abdij werd twee keer verwoest door protestanten. Wederom werd het afgebroken tijdens de revolutie. Het deed dient als een magazijn en een salpeteroven, voordat hij terugkeerde naar zijn rol als Concordaat.
