In 1851 liet Leon Foucault een gewicht van 28 kilogram vanaf de koepel van het Parthenon naar beneden slingeren. In het Parthenon bevindt zich nu een replica die laat zien dat de aarde draait wanneer het gewicht heen en weer beweegt.
