Het belfort, dat 62 meter hoog is, is een massieve toren van gele baksteen in Vlaams neorenaissancestijl. Na 200 treden te hebben beklommen, bereikt men een balkon dat een prachtig uitzicht biedt over de vlakte van de Vlaamse Bergen. De belfort wordt bekroond door een uivormige klokkentoren, met daarbovenop de sirene Mélusine, de windwijzer en het symbool van de stad, die over de stad waakt.
