Dit imposante monument werd in opdracht van de familie Vernes gebouwd om de dood van hun zoon Marcel en zijn copiloot Jean Peinaud te herdenken, die in 1917 omkwamen in een luchtgevecht op deze locatie. Hun Farman F61 werd neergeschoten tijdens een observatiemissie in dit gebied bij Vailly-sur-Aisne en stortte neer niet ver van de Folemprise boerderij...
