Notre-Dame was de kerk van een klein cluniacense priorij en maakt deel uit van de Franse gemeente Châtel-Montagne in het departement Allier, aan de grens tussen de regio's Auvergne en Bourgondië, iets meer dan 20 kilometer ten oosten van Vichy en ongeveer 35 kilometer ten westen van Roanne. Châtel-Montagne wordt omringd door de meerdere keren opgehouden beek de Besbre.
