De Charente is een rivier in het zuidwesten van Frankrijk. Zij ontspringt in Chéronnac en mondt bij Rochefort uit in de Atlantische Oceaan.
De rivier doorkruist vier departementen in de regio Nouvelle-Aquitaine: Haute-Vienne, Vienne, Charente en Charente-Maritime.
