Description

De start van de Contareformatie wordt ingezet door het sturen van Alva naar de Lage Landen na de Beeldenstorm.

De tocht van Alva ging van Cartagena (10 mei 1567), via Genua, over Turijn, Mont-Cenis over de Alpen zoals Hannibal maar dan in omgekeerde richting, via Savoye en Lotharingen, Luxemburg naar Brussel. Ze deden er 3,5 maand over.

Die tocht werd voorgesteld door Bruegel in zijn schilderij "De bekering van Paulus" dat nu in het Kunsthistorische Museum van Wenen hangt
