Description

De Basilique Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc (of Basilique du bois chenu), die het dorp Domremy-la-Pucelle domineert, is een prachtig monument voor de nationale erkenning van de heldin.

Gebouwd door architect Paul Sédille na het leggen van de eerste steen in 1881, staat het op de plek waar Jeanne haar stemmen zou hebben gehoord. Je begint je bezoek met de crypte "Notre-Dame des Armées", geopend in 1891.

Een onmisbare doorgang leidt vervolgens naar de bovenkerk: de indrukwekkende Escalier de la Paix, ingewijd in 1946 en versierd met de wapenschilden van de steden die gemarkeerd zijn door de doortocht van Jeanne. Bewonder binnen in de basiliek de rijke decoratie met grote mozaïeken en monumentale schilderijen van Lionel Royer die het epos van La Pucelle uitbeelden. Een unieke plek van geschiedenis en spiritualiteit!
