Overlooking the village of Domremy-la-Pucelle, the Basilique Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc (or Basilique du bois chenu) is the imposing monument to the national recognition of the heroine.
Built by architect Paul Sédille after the laying of the foundation stone in 1881, it stands on the very spot where Jeanne is said to have heard her voices. You'll begin your visit with the "Notre-Dame des Armées" crypt, opened in 1891.
An essential passage then leads to the upper church: the impressive Escalier de la Paix, inaugurated in 1946 and adorned with the coats of arms of the towns marked by Joan's passage. Inside the Basilica, marvel at the rich decoration of large mosaics and monumental paintings by Lionel Royer, retracing the epic of La Pucelle. A unique place of history and spirituality!
