Aan de voet van het Château de Pau, het Parlement van Navarra en de Gave de Pau, liggen de hedendaagse tuinen van de Conseil Général des Pyrénées Atlantiques.
Een eerste tuin van stenen en water, onderbroken door palmbomen waar rechte paden en bassins elkaar opvolgen. Het water bouwt zich op, parallel aan het kanaal van Heïd dat het van oost naar west doorkruist. Deze in 2000 voltooide tapijttuin is te bewonderen vanaf de Boulevard des Pyrénées, waar u al zijn pracht en praal kunt zien. Het is verbonden met de promenades "Les sentiers du Roy" die het kasteel met de benedenstad verbinden.
Kom in het voorjaar de heidestruiken bewonderen: rododendrons, azalea's, camelia's, hortensia's. Veel plezier met het opsporen van de flox, alchilla of sleutelbloem. Neem ook de tijd om de gedurfde, moderne architectuur van het Hôtel du Département te bekijken.
