Ai piedi del Castello di Pau, del Parlamento della Navarra e del Gave de Pau, si trovano i giardini contemporanei del Conseil Général des Pyrénées Atlantiques.
Un primo giardino di pietre e acqua, punteggiato da palme, dove si susseguono percorsi rettilinei e vasche. L'acqua si accumula, parallelamente al canale Heïd che lo attraversa da est a ovest. Completato nel 2000, questo giardino di tappeti può essere ammirato dal Boulevard des Pyrénées, da dove si può vedere tutto il suo splendore. È collegato alle passeggiate chiamate "Les sentiers du Roy" che collegano il castello alla città bassa.
Venite ad ammirare gli arbusti di erica in primavera: rododendri, azalee, camelie, ortensie. Divertitevi a scovare il phlox, l'alchilla o la primula. Prendetevi anche il tempo di dare un'occhiata all'architettura moderna e audace dell'Hôtel du Département.
