Gebouwd aan de bron van de rivier de Barse, werden de eerste stenen van het Château de Vendeuvre-sur-Barse gelegd in de 12e eeuw. Er zijn nog maar een paar sporen over van het oorspronkelijke uiterlijk, omdat de architectuur door de eeuwen heen veel veranderingen heeft ondergaan, tot de 19e eeuw, toen Guillaume Gabriel Pavée de Vendeuvre het opnieuw ontwierp en het zijn huidige uiterlijk gaf.
Veel illustere mensen hebben hier verbleven, waaronder de Luxemburgse familie, de gouverneurs van Champagne en zelfs Lodewijk XIII.
Het kasteel staat sinds 1981 op de monumentenlijst en het terrein, waar het hele jaar door talloze evenementen plaatsvinden, is opgenomen in de Algemene Inventaris van het Cultureel Erfgoed.
Het kasteel is gesloten voor het publiek.
