Ze werden ontdekt en gerapporteerd door L. Cadis in de jaren 1950. Hij deed actief onderzoek naar deze sector van de Gironde en verrichtte opgravingen in enkele van deze tumuli. Hij vond structuren en verzamelde overblijfselen uit de 1e IJzertijd (grafurnen, metalen voorwerpen). Deze tumuli zijn begraafplaatsen, en er zijn er verschillende in het zuiden van de Gironde en langs de vallei van de Leyre.
