Het kasteel bevindt zich in de gemeente Giry, gelegen in het departement Nièvre in de regio Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Het is gebouwd op de helling van de heuvel die uitkijkt over de vallei van de Nièvre d'Arzembouy. Het kasteel van Giry is een oude versterkte woning met een langwerpig plan, met vier ronde torens op de hoeken, door schietgaten doorkruist, verbonden door muren, en verdedigd door een versterkte poort. Men kan de groeven onderscheiden die de armen van de ophaalbrug bevatten.
