St John's Priorij op 2 continenten!
Een van de oudste beschermde monumenten van Poitou, bijna duizend jaar oud. De Prieuré Saint-Jean, gebouwd in de 11e eeuw, is in werkelijkheid een grote abdij die rijkelijk is bedeeld met de oorsprong van de wijnen van de appellation Anjou van de noordelijke Vienne; de benedictijner monniken van de abdij van BOURGUEIL voerden in 1076 het eerste wijngaardplan in en innoveerden door het bouwen van een opmerkelijke en unieke architectuur die de overgangsperiode van het einde van de Romaanse en het begin van de Gotische kunst voor het westen van Frankrijk aangeeft.
