Het werd gebouwd in 1846 en vergroot in 1876. In 1895 werd het uitgerust met een mechanisch Wetzel-orgel. De synagoge werd in 1922 versierd met een reeks opmerkelijke fresco's van de kunstenaar Achille Metzger en is de enige synagoge in de Elzas die niet door de nazi's is ontwijd.
