De geschiedenis van de pittoreske kapel Bonne Fontaine de Hoste begint in 1799, toen een Mariaverschijning plaatsvond bij een bron, voor een doofstom kind, dat werd genezen. Andere verhalen over genezing verschenen al snel en er werden belangrijke bedevaarten georganiseerd, in de context van de Franse Revolutie, die deze volksverhuizingen niet op prijs stelde. In 1848 werd een calvarieberg opgericht en werd de bron ontwikkeld. Uiteindelijk werd aan het begin van de Eerste Wereldoorlog de kapel gebouwd om tegemoet te komen aan de religieuze hartstocht die deze plaats, die zowel geloof als legende uitstraalt, oproept.
