Het bastidestadje Sauveterre-de-Guyenne ligt halverwege Saint-Emilion en Sauternes en werd in 1281 gesticht door de koning van Engeland, Edward 1st. De parkeerplaats en het serviceterrein liggen vlakbij een picknickplaats, het historische stadscentrum en de winkels (5 minuten lopen). De stad kijkt uit over de wijngaarden en is de hoofdstad van het grootste wijndistrict in de regio Entre-deux-Mers. Hier worden Bordeaux AOC-wijnen (rood, wit, rosé, Clairet), Bordeaux Supérieur, Entre-deux-Mers en Crémant de Bordeaux-wijnen geproduceerd. Vanuit het oogpunt van erfgoed heeft de stad de orthogonale indeling behouden die kenmerkend is voor bastides, het centrale plein met zijn arcades en de overblijfselen van middeleeuwse vestingwerken. Je kunt zelfs een van de middeleeuwse torens bezoeken.
