Het werd in 1830 opgericht om de trainingsladingen van de cavalerieregimenten, waaronder de XXe Draak, mogelijk te maken. Het werk van de gebroeders Bühler, beroemde 19e-eeuwse landschapsarchitecten, is helaas in de vergetelheid geraakt. Het onderste deel van de tuin werd rond 1928 volledig heraangelegd. Vlakbij de grote vijver kun je de plantenbedden bewonderen, versierd met de specifieke techniek van mozaïek. Hoewel de bronzen beelden tijdens de oorlog werden omgesmolten, dankt de tuin zijn karakter aan de bloemperken en bomen die hem sieren.
