De Donjon, een emblematisch gebouw van de stad Niort, is de laatste getuige van een belangrijk versterkt complex met een stadsmuur van bijna 2700 meter. De Donjon is sinds 1840 geklasseerd als Historisch Monument en is een Musée de France. Het museum van de Donjon herbergt archeologische en etnografische collecties van de streek, evenals een tentoonstelling die de geschiedenis van het monument vertelt aan de hand van een moderne scenografie.
De Donjon van Niort is geklasseerd als Historisch Monument.
