Deze Scheepsschroef is ter ere van zijn uitvinder Frédéric Sauvage.

De Franse ingenieur Frédéric Sauvage testte de propelleraandrijving in 1832 op een schuit op de Ourcq.

Op 15 januari 1832 bewees hij in Honfleur, in het oude dok en met een kleine boot, in een openbaar experiment dat propelleraandrijving drie keer sneller was dan peddelaandrijving.

Hij kan worden beschouwd als een van de uitvinders van schroefaandrijving toegepast op boten.
