Wist je dat Duitse natuurkundigen tijdens WO II een manier vonden om de weersomstandigheden in Londen te bepalen op basis van het geluid van de Big Ben. En dat was waardevolle informatie om de Luftwaffe te helpen bij het plannen van hun aanvallen. BBC zende het nieuws uit naar het door de nazi's bezette Europa. Elk nieuwsprogramma opende met een live uitzending van de Big Ben die het uur sloeg. Het weer beïnvloedde kleine verschillen in de toon. Toen de Britse geheime dienst dit ontdekte, verving ze de live uitzending door een vaste geluidsopname.
