De Brecon Beacons is zowel een bergketen als een Nationaal Park. De Brecon Beacons zijn genoemd naar de oude praktijk van het aansteken van signaalvuren (fakkels) op bergen om te waarschuwen voor aanvallen door de Engelsen. De ronde van de Taf Fechan-silhouet vormt een populaire ridge walk die bekend staat als de 'Beacons Horseshoe'.
