Qua beroemdheid kan deze boom wel tellen. Volgens de legende zou Isaac Newton hier onder deze appelboom gezeten hebben en een appelzien vallen hebben. Dat zou leiden tot het uitwerken van zijn theorie over de zwaartekracht. Tal van afstammelingen van deze appelboom zijn nu te vinden in Trinity College, Cambridge, in de Cambridge University Botanic Garden, and in de Instituto Balseiro library garden in Argentinië. Maar hier zou dus de origineel appelboom staan.
