Volgens een legende zou Aristoteles verdronken zijn in de getijden die 7 keer per dag door de Euripus Straat stromen. En dit omdat hij het patroon van de getijden niet zou gesnapt hebben. Dit blijkt echter een foute legende te zijn want Aristoteles stierf een natuurlijke dood op het aanliggende eiland Euboia of Evvia.
