Palazzolo is de uiterste noordelijke afsplitsing van de Janiculum-heuvel die zich naar de Vaticaanse heuvel uitstrekt, in het Borgo-rione, in Rome.
De toponiem komt van enkele Romeinse ruïnes die zich op de heuvel bevinden, genaamd "Palatiolum Neronis", omdat wordt aangenomen dat zij de resten zijn van een klein paleis dat toebehoorde aan Nero. In de middeleeuwen werd het ook "mons Neronis", Palaceolum of Palazzola genoemd. Het wordt tweemaal genoemd in de gravure Grande Veduta del Tempio e del Palazzo Vaticano, gegraveerd door Giovanni Maggi en Giacomo Mascardi in 1615, en gepubliceerd door Vader Ehrle.
