De Basiliek van San Frediano is een romaanse kerk uit het begin van de twaalfde eeuw. Op de plek van de huidige kerk was sinds de zesde eeuw na Christus al een religieus gebouw te vinden. De kerk valt op door zijn monumentale façade met een prachtig mozaïek. Op het mozaïek is “De hemelvaart van Christus” afgebeeld. Christus zit in een mandorla die gedragen wordt door twee engelen. Eronder staan de apostelen naar het tafereel te kijken. Bijzonder is dat Maria ontbreekt op het tafereel. Op de plaats van Maria is een spitsboogvenster te zien.
De binnenzijde van de basiliek is minstens zo mooi als de buitenzijde. Het monumentale interieur is prachtig versierd met wit marmer. Bijzonder zijn Romeinse kapittel die uit een amfitheater afkomstig zijn. Een ander bijzonder element in de kerk is de doopvont uit de twaalfde eeuw.
