In 1870 stichtte Joseph Meens in de lommerrijke heuvels van het Zuid-Limburgse Thull de Alfa Brouwerij. ALFA is één van de weinige brouwerijen in Nederland die nog geheel zelfstandig opereren en niet afhankelijk zijn van een groot concern. Bij de brouwerij, die nog altijd in handen is van de familie Meens, staat inmiddels de 4e generatie van de familie Meens aan het roer.
